Long Weekend (the good kind!)

Finally a long weekend of the good variety! We were really due for some relaxing, fun time together this Memorial Day weekend.

We spent Saturday over at the Higginbothams' because Ann and Kate were in town! Tess, of course, was shy at first, but Kate set to work trying to "warm her up." Presents are a great way to start! Kate had made Tess a dainty, beaded bracelet just Tess' size. Tess thought that was pretty swell!

Then Kate spent the rest of the afternoon playing dollhouse with Tess, reading her stories, watching cartoons and playing with more toys.

Let's just say that she won Tess over.
(Notice how Tess won't put her arm down, for fear that her bracelet will fall off.)

On Monday, we headed over to Fairfax Corner where the have a spraying water fountain for kids to play in. All the kids loved it!

All the kids, except for Tess, of course. She got near one little spray and she suddenly thought of a thousand other things she'd rather be doing.

Such as:

"No sprinkles, Mommy. I take a nap."

and
"No sprinkles, Mommy. I OK. I read a newspaper."

Bit by bit, Ry was able to patiently coerce her back to the water.

Tess has an exceedingly patient father.

Who doesn't mind catching sprinkles in a teapot.

And doesn't mind getting wetter than Tess.

She didn't love it, but she did it. Good job, Tess.
My brave, brave girl.
(Yeah, right!)

Afterwards, we went out for crab cakes.
She did love those!

She's making progress! I remember when she hated taking a bath! At least she's edging closer and closer to the water. Sprinkle, sprinkle, little star. . .

We had some fun placing Tess' tiny teapot and cup on top of a water jet (when the water shot up, the teapot/cup would rise a few inches in the air).

However, the fun came to a rapid end when Paul Blart, Mall Cop, suddenly showed up on his segway and tasered me.

Oh, Ryan. You are such the scofflaw! First it was driving without your car lights on just before dusk on returning from the 7-11 when you first got your driver's license. Now, you are terrorizing the little people's park with your itty-bitty tea cup! AArgh. What to *do* with you!!!

Oddly enough, both mall cop and the police officer who pulled me over noted that my actions could have turned children into orphans. Same guy, second career?
